Science Blog #6: Giant Squid

                                                                            3-D Squid

This is the beginning of what my 3-D Squid looked like! I gathered various different materials, ones that I wouldn't have thought about using before, to create this creature. My materials included bubble wrap, a styrofoam cone for the head, blue streamers, glue, ducktape, and googly-eyes, which I didn't end up using. After some time, I came up with my own squid!

Extension Activities for the Squid

Squid Identification in Sensory Bottle

Children could identify the squid in an ocean sensory bottle that they can make with the teacher using glitter, food dye, shells, sea creature toys, and water!

Squid Comparison to School Bus

Bring children out to an actual school bus for them to get an idea of how the giant squid can be bigger!

Ink Art

Children could explore ink in an open-ended art activity, which could then get them thinking about how squid release ink sometimes!

Ocean Song: There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea - Children can expand their knowledge of other sea creatures that live in the ocean through music!

Children's Literature

This books could help children learn even more about the life of a squid and about other sea creatures in the ocean!
