Children can be naturalists by tracking nature daily in a journal. Younger children could also draw what they are seeing outside, as long as it's done every day. At the end of the year, children can reflect on their nature notebooks!
Activity #2: Enjoying Nature Surprises
Children can keep a nature surprise list where they write down the surprises that they've encountered in nature that day. Maybe its a sound or a flower or birds!
Activity #3: Tell a Story about Nature
Children can reflect on what nature means to them. Children can write (or talk if appropriate) about a time when they were in nature... What do they remember? What was the setting like? What kind of smells were present?
Activity #4: The Colors of the Seasons
Children can create a color wheel of the seasons! Children can use a variety of different art materials to show the seasons as they are. This is something they can do as a group, and it can enhance children's understanding of the changing seasons.
Activity #5: Take a Closer Look
Children can look a little bit closer at nature as they create a drawing of where they see it. Challenge the children to look in places where nature may be harder to find, such as along a highway or outside of the classroom.
